Cleveland to Host Its First Blockchain Conference, Solutions, December 1-4, 2018
Blockchain is an online ledger system synonymous with hosting Bitcoin and other online currencies. Impacting how data is entered, secured, and shared with requirements that it is: (1) consistent, (2) immutable, (3) decentralized, and (4) available, this could be Cleveland’s chance to take a big risk that would change our economic landscape. Cleveland car mogul Bernie Moreno formed a “BlockLand” vision and group that will plan the conference, tentatively scheduled for December 1-4, in a little over four months. The eight nodes of focus for BlockLand, include: thought leadership, business applications, talent development, entrepreneurial environment, political environment, legal system, philanthropy, and place. Cleveland International Fund Searches For New Strategies to Support Northeast Ohio’s Growth
The Cleveland International Fund (CIF) is a registered regional center with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that is permitted to pool capital from multiple foreign investors for investment in economic development opportunities in Northeast Ohio. Specific to the Health-Tech Corridor, CIF investors have helped push development projects, including University Hospitals expansion and the One University Circle apartment complex. CIF investors are eligible for EB-5 Investor or employment-based visas that entitle investors and their families to entry and permanent residency status in the U.S. The $240M in CIF investment raised has largely been attributed to investors who were motivated by the prospect of EB-5 visas. Congressional authorization for the 20-year-old program is set to expire on September 30, 2018, but developers are circling back with the 209 EB-5 investors who have already been repaid a sum of $104.5M to source interest in investing in future Cleveland projects on a market rate basis. Full article.
